Incoming Government Brief
The Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency has received a number of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests from media outlets for the Incoming Government Brief and, in some cases, for the brief prepared in the event of a change of government.
Due to the high level of interest in the brief prepared for the returned government, the department has made the decision to publicly release the information to ensure it is available to all of the FOI applicants at the same time. Deletions have been made to the documents in accordance with exemptions available under the FOI Act.
In line with normal administrative procedures, the department neither finalised, nor retained, copies of the draft brief for an incoming Coalition government.

Please note that there was an error on page 10 of the Strategic Incoming Government Brief. The Brief incorrectly stated that current warming 'is about 100 times faster than the warming after an ice age (about 0.001°C per decade).'
This sentence should have read:
'The rate of global warming over the past 50 years of approximately 0.13°C per decade is about 10 times faster than the warming after an ice age (about 0.01°C per decade).'
