01/12/2011

On 10 July 2011, the Government announced its plan for a clean energy future, Securing a clean energy future: the Australian Government's climate change plan. In this plan, the Government identified that a carbon price is likely to have significant transformational implications for the electricity generation sector, and outlined a package of measures to address energy security under carbon pricing.

As part of the energy security package, the Government committed to provide assistance to highly emissions-intensive coal-fired generators in the form of $1 billion in cash payments in 2011–12.
