Carbon Farming Initiative non-Kyoto carbon fund

Clean Energy Future

The Australian Government will purchase non-Kyoto Carbon Farming Initiative credits that cannot be purchased by companies with responsibilities under the carbon pricing mechanism.

The ongoing Carbon Farming Initiative non-Kyoto Carbon Fund will increase incentives for activities that are not counted towards Australia’s emissions target under current international carbon accounting rules. These include soil carbon, revegetation and cessation of logging in native forests.

Funding of $250 million over six years will be available from 2012–13.

The Carbon Farming Initiative non-Kyoto carbon fund will be administered by the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency and will commence in July 2013.
