Helping Australian households improve energy efficiency
| Important notice - Applications have now closed - Green Start Program Round One |
On 26 July 2010, the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency opened applications under round one of the Green Start program. Applications officially closed at 5:00pm Canberra local time, 20 August 2010. The Minister for Climate Change, Energy Efficiency and Water announced the new Green Start program on 8 July 2010. |
The Green Start program will be delivered through two separate rounds of competitive grant funding.
Round one will replace the Green Loans program and provide grants to individuals or organisations to undertake and fund the delivery of on-site energy assessments for households to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. Grants will be awarded to accredited assessors and organisations who can deliver high quality assessments through a competitive process.
Round two will provide grants to individuals or organizations including community and welfare sector NGOs, to provide practical help to low income and disadvantaged Australian households to improve their energy efficiency, including support for implementing projects or actions to reduce energy use. Further information on round two will be provided following consultation with key stakeholders.
Green Start projects will contribute to reducing Australia's greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy efficiency by:
- enhancing community engagement and participation; and
- educating Australian households on practical steps to improve their energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Further information about round one of the Green Start program and how to apply is contained in the Program Guidelines.
