Consultation on NGER Supplementary guidelines: Public Disclosure of Additional Energy Consumption Data

The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting legislation requires the publication of total energy consumption data – primary, exogenous and transformed – where a greenhouse emission or energy consumption threshold is triggered.

Some industry groups and individual corporations have raised concerns that the publication of total energy consumption data which includes transformed energy, required under the NGER Act, may confuse public users.

The Greenhouse and Energy Data Officer (GEDO) has proposed a solution using section 28 of the law for corporations that have this concern and may wish to have additional "net" energy consumption data published.

Draft supplementary guidelines and a section 28 form have been distributed to industry groups who raised the issue directly with the GEDO.
