How to certify

Steps to certifying a product or service

The process for certifying your product or service under Greenhouse Friendly™ is:

Step 1: Talk to the Australian Greenhouse Office about your product or service - we are here to help you understand how Greenhouse Friendly™ works and to identify some of the benefits your business could achieve from becoming involved.
Step 2: Prepare a greenhouse gas Life Cycle Assessment for your product or service.
Step 3 Develop an Emissions Monitoring Plan to track the ongoing greenhouse emissions associated with your product or service.
Step 4: Have your Life Cycle Assessment and Emissions Monitoring Plan independently verified.
Step 5: Submit your application to the Australian Greenhouse Office. This will include:
  • the Life Cycle Assessment
  • Emissions Monitoring Plan
  • Independent Verification Report for your product or service.
Step 6: The Greenhouse Friendly™ Administrator reviews documentation and makes a recommendation to the Australian Greenhouse Office.
Step 7: The Australian Greenhouse Office makes a decision on your application. If you are successful, you will enter into Deed of Certification which enables you to start using the Greenhouse Friendly™ Logo.
Step 8: Maintain Greenhouse Friendly™ certification of your product or service. This includes updating your Life Cycle Assessment and Emissions Monitoring Plan (as required) and submitting an annual report to the Australian Greenhouse Office each year.
Step 9: Re-certification after five years. You will need to enter into a new Deed of Certification or extend your existing one.
