Independent verification is a key feature of Greenhouse Friendly™. The strict requirements for participating in Greenhouse Friendly™ are backed by rigorous independent verification standards that underpin the credibility of the initiative.
Panel of Independent Verifiers
The Australian Greenhouse Office has established a Panel of Independent Verifiers to undertake independent third-party verification work under Greenhouse Challenge Plus, and this includes all Greenhouse Friendly™ verification activities.

At the start of a product/service certification process or abatement project approval process, the Greenhouse Friendly™ Administrator will provide you with a list of Panel members who are qualified for Greenhouse Friendly™ verifications in your industry sector.
Role of Verifiers
Independent Verifiers ensure that the documentation of applicants and participants are accurate and meet the requirements of Greenhouse Friendly™. For each verification engagement, the selected verifier undertakes a rigorous evaluation of either:
- the Life Cycle Assessment and Emission Monitoring Plan of its product or service, prior to certification
- the Eligibility Statement, Emission/Abatement Study and Project Monitoring Plan for an abatement project, prior to its approval
- the annual report for an already certified Greenhouse Friendly™ product or service
- the abatement claim for an already approved Greenhouse Friendly™ project.
Each verifier is subject to a Code of Conduct, which sets out strict confidentiality and conflict of interest requirements.
All verification activities are conducted in accordance with an approved verification process and reported in a standard reporting format.
