Greenhouse Friendly™ products & services

Companies with products and services certified as Greenhouse Friendly™ are finding that good environmental practices also make good business sense. All industry sectors may seek Greenhouse Friendly™ certification.

All greenhouse offsets are sourced from Greenhouse Friendly™ approved abatement activities only. These abatement activities offer permanent, independently verified offsets which represent emissions reductions or sequestration which has contributed to a net reduction of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions.

AGL Green Balance™

AGL Green Balance™ electricity is certified Greenhouse Friendly™ by the Australian Government.

Electricity generation from fossil fuels causes greenhouse gas emissions to be released into the atmosphere. AGL Green Balance™ works to counterbalance these emissions by eliminating or reducing emissions at other facilities, such as factories or landfill rubbish sites.

Consumers are invited to choose Green Balance™ electricity for a small additional charge, and to help fight global warming by significantly reducing CO2-e (carbon dioxide equivalent) emissions from the atmosphere. The more consumers choose to contribute to Green Balance™, the greater the number of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions that are offset.

Cascade Green

Cascade Green logo

'Cascade Green' is making it easier for beer drinkers to make greener choices.

Cascade Green is a full strength, all-malt lager, with one third less carbohydrates than a regular full strength beer and is preservative free. Cascade Green is produced by a Tasmanian company at the Cascade Brewery in Hobart from 100% Tasmanian ingredients, within the existing production facility using existing process.

In the last six years the Cascade Brewery has cut greenhouse emissions by 16% and reduced water usage by 30% per unit of production. In producing the new Cascade Green beer all greenhouse emissions attributed to the beer over its entire lifecycle - from picking the hops to recycling the bottle - will be offset, meaning the net impact of the emissions is reduced to zero. The Greenhouse Friendly™ certification process ensures all emissions associated with the beer are accounted for, and only high quality offset credits are purchased to counteract the emissions created.

The Cascade Brewery Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Foster's Group, a premium beverage company supplying alcohol and non-alcohol beverages globally.

Jetstar

Jetstar Logo

Jetstar is now able to offer its customers the opportunity to reduce the impact of greenhouse gas emissions on the environment by offering a Carbon Offset Program that enables them to offset the greenhouse gas emissions caused by their flights both domestic and international.

If the customers choose to offset the flight, their contribution will be directed towards one of several Australian Government approved Greenhouse Friendly™ Abatement Projects.

All greenhouse offsets are sourced from Greenhouse Friendly™ approved abatement activities only. These abatement activities offer permanent, independently verified offsets which represent emissions reductions or sequestration which has contributed to a net reduction of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions.

To accurately calculate the emissions associated with passenger flights on each of the city pair combinations offered across Jetstar's network, Jetstar undertook a comprehensive greenhouse gas life cycle ("cradle to grave") assessment of the emissions associated with its operations. This life cycle assessment was independently verified as part of the certification process that enabled Jetstar to achieve Greenhouse Friendly™ accreditation. Whilst the majority of emissions are produced by flying operations, this assessment also included an analysis of emissions associated with Jetstar's ground-based activities.

This process provided an accurate and reliable basis for the calculation of passenger emission figures, and ensured that Jetstar could offer their passengers the option to offset the entire carbon footprint produced by their journey.

Greenhouse Friendly™ is the only Australian Government endorsed voluntary carbon offset scheme and boasts stringent international best practice accounting and monitoring methodologies.
