Japan-Australia Practical Collaboration on Climate Change

Japan-Australia Practical Collaboration on Climate Change was initiated under the Japan-Australia Creative Partnership, which was announced by our respective Prime Ministers in May 2002.

Australian and Japanese environment officials agreed to cooperate in three areas:

As part of our collaborative work to engage all countries in an effective response to climate change, in 2004 Australia and Japan jointly hosted two events:

Fourteenth Asia-Pacific Seminar on Climate Change - September 2004

The Fourteenth Asia-Pacific Seminar on Climate Change - Driving Climate Efforts Forward was held in Sydney, from 21-24 September 2004. It was jointly organised by the Ministry of the Environment Japan, the Australian Greenhouse Office, and the Overseas Environmental Cooperation Centre, Japan, in close collaboration with the secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The seminar provided an opportunity for participants to share information on domestic and international climate change issues in an informal environment. Discussions focused on achievements and challenges at a regional level, and lessons learnt as countries continue to develop their responses to climate change.

Asia Pacific Network on Global Change Research (APN)

The APN is an intergovernmental network for the promotion of global change research and links between science and policy making in the Asia-Pacific region.

Ninth APN Inter-Governmental Meeting and Scientific Planning Group Meeting - March 2004

The Ninth Inter-Governmental Meeting and Scientific Planning Group Meeting of the APN, hosted by the Australian Greenhouse Office, took place in Canberra from 22 - 24 March 2004. The meeting focused on practical cooperative approaches to research and global change.
