Australia-New Zealand Climate Change Partnership
In July 2003, the Australian and New Zealand Governments announced an Australia-New Zealand Climate Change Partnership, built around five themes:
- Engaging with business and local government on technology development, policy design and implementation
- Building on existing cooperation on energy efficiency
- Measuring and reducing emissions from the agricultural sector
- Further enhancing climate change science and monitoring
- Working together with our Pacific island neighbours to address the regional challenges posed by climate change.
Several collaborative projects were announced in December 2003 and November 2004.
Climate Change and Business: The Australia-New Zealand Conference and Trade Expo - November 2004
The Australian and New Zealand Governments also jointly sponsored the Climate Change and Business: The Australia-New Zealand Conference and Trade Expo, held in Auckland in November 2004. The event was very successful, and was attended by 200 representatives from business, research organisations and national, state and local governments. The event enabled extensive exchange of ideas and information on existing activities to address climate change, identification of immediate business risks and opportunities related to climate change, and exploration of future directions regarding climate change action.
