In the spirit of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Australia and the Government of the People’s Republic of China on Climate Change Activities, Australia and China have made some substantial progress in climate change cooperation over the last two years. Both Australia and China attach great importance to addressing climate change and are investing time and effort to achieve the objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Our achievements to date show that this cooperative framework is efficient, practical and feasible. It has facilitated scientific and technological exchange between the two nations and strengthened our efforts in addressing climate change. The cooperation between the two countries has also contributed to the effective implementation of our respective National Climate Change Strategies and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This Australia-China Climate Change Cooperation Progress and Achievements document highlights the advances that we have made together especially in the areas of low emission technology and scientific understanding with regard to climate change mitigation and adaptation. We look forward to seeing the further development of Australia—China climate change cooperation in the future.
