Burwood Council recognises and acknowledges its community leadership role in environmental management.
Council is committed to achieving its emissions reduction targets within its organisation, the community and corporate sectors. These reductions will not only contribute to helping the environment but assist to improve the quality of life in the local government area.

Actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Community
- Council has developed several education programs including development of an environmental newsletter, waste and recycling education programs and tree planting.
Corporate
- Development of a Fleet Management Policy Team to investigate ways of altering the current fleet policy to include low cost, environmentally friendly solutions. This has resulted in the purchase of a hybrid car to be used in the Council car pooling system.
Future greenhouse abatement actions
- Burwood Council is currently preparing the Local Action Plan for both the Corporate and Community sectors.
