Actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Community
- Council is providing residents interest free loans toward the purchase of solar hot water systems.
- A three bin waste system is operational and reducing community waste to landfill.
- Council is continuing to look for opportunities to reduce residual waste.
- Solar lighting is being progressively installed in Council's reserves.
Travel
- A Transport Action Plan has been adopted with goals to increase walking, bicycle riding and use of public transport within the Council area.
Corporate
- A Sustainable Public Lighting Action Plan is being developed to address one of the highest greenhouse gas emission areas within Council.
- Council is purchasing recycled paper for most of its office consumption.
- A continuing program of identifying high energy use properties to look for improvements is occurring.
- Council's pool cars have been down-sized to four cylinders.
Future greenhouse abatement actions
- Council is continuing identification of energy efficiency opportunities on Council's premises.
- Implementing actions in the Transport Action Plan.
