City of Canada Bay
"The City of Canada Bay was the first Council in New South Wales to receive all five milestones in the Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Australia program. Council recently joined the CCP Plus program which will provide us with a framework to further reduce our corporate and community greenhouse gas reduction goals that were set early on in the program", said Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.
"As part of the program Council has completed energy audits and lighting retrofits of Council buildings, there's solar lighting in parks, solar and gas heating at Cabarita and Drummoyne Pools as well as community and staff waste minimisation and recycling programs ".

Actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Community
- Council has developed numerous education programs including:
- an annual school environmental education program
- residential retrofit program
- community greenhouse kits
- community sustainability workshops
- various environmental displays
- community environmental awards
- green business program
- development of regular environmental newsletter
- waste and recycling programs and tree planting.
Travel
- A travel access guide for the Canada Bay Civic Centre, Drummoyne, has been developed along with a sustainable transport study.
- Council has partnered with the NSW Health Unit to encourage children to walk to school, participate in the annual "Walk to Work" day, as well as ongoing upgrades to the Bay Run and other facilities.
Corporate
- Council has developed:
- the Local Agenda 21 Action Plan
- regular updating of greenhouse gas inventory and action plan
- greenfleet membership
- energy audit and retrofit on Council buildings
- waste & recycling programs
- solar lighting in parks and solar heating in pools.
Future greenhouse abatement actions
- Council will continue with the programs already implemented and will constantly focus on greenhouse gas abatement in both the corporate and community sectors.
