Hawkesbury City Council
The Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Australia program has proved very fruitful in managing and monitoring energy information and I am more than happy with Council's achievements in this area. I am also pleased to inform you that through Hawkesbury City Council's Clean Energy Strategy, Council will continue moving forward to achieving it's vision in reducing greenhouse gases.
A word from the Mayor
Actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Community
- Development of education resources
- Introduction of an energy usage audit system for selected households
- Free energy saving lightglobes promoted and distributed at the Council's display at the Hawkesbury Show.
Corporate
- - Retrofitting of lighting throughout public areas of administration building
- Purchasing of energy efficient office equipment and improvement of building management system which controls electrical plant
- An in-house program was run to educate staff at work and at home
- Council policy was enhanced and reviewed through an energy action plan.
Future greenhouse abatement actions
- Council is committed to further monitoring and energy reduction through an energy action plan that was established during the course of the CCP program. The "Clean Energy Strategy" has identified significant areas of energy consumption, proposed solutions, and time frames.
- Following the achievement of Milestone 5, Council has commissioned a co-generation plant in a new community building. The building has laminated glass on all external windows and also incorporates passive solar design using electronic sunscreens, glass walls, and heavy insulation.
- A four cylinder fleet policy has also been put in place.
