Actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Community
- Council provides a kerbside recycling program for residents, reducing the amount of waste to landfill.
- Council also undertakes community education and awareness programs.
Travel
- Installation of bike parking facilities at 'end of trip' sites and transport hubs as well as the development of a bicylce route map to encourage bicycle use.
Corporate
- LCD screens and Energy Star engaged.
- Vehicle downsize.
- Solar hot water heaters installed in Council buildings.
- Energy audits of key Council buildings and the implementation of recommendations.
- Staff education and awareness programs on global warming, energy efficiency, waste and related issues.
- Upgrade of existing air conditioning units.
- Solar panels installed on Councils irrigation control systems.
- Solar lights installed in various parks.
- Shower heads in Council buildings changed to AAA rated to reduce the amount of water needing to be heated.
Future greenhouse abatement actions
- Council has recently made a commitment to CCP Plus, and is currently undertaking a review and update of its Greenhouse Reduction Strategy with a focus on actions that minimise the impact of a rapidly growing population.
