- Port Stephens Waste Management Strategy - conversion of organic municipal solid waste into compost through the Bedminster Composting Process
- Undertaking a GreenPower and Climate Change Awareness Campaign.

- Urban Settlement Strategy promoting compact urban settlements to reduce reliance on cars and promote walking and cycling
- Integrated pedestrian and cycle plan.

- Corporate Energy Strategy
- Holiday Park cabin and amenity retrofit
- Power Factor Correction (Lakeside Pool)
- Conversion of CRD computer monitors to LCD screens
- Conversion of a number of 6cyl vehicles to LPG or 4cyl
- Paper recycling in office buildings
- An Energy Savings Action Plan was established. This includes an audit of Council's 12 largest energy using facilities to determine what energy savings will be achieved in the next 12 months.
Future greenhouse abatement actions
- Ongoing retrofitting of Council facilities to reduce unnecessary energy consumption costs.
- Promotion of sustainable, energy efficient patterns of human settlement and transport in the Local Government Area.
