Actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Rockhampton City Council prides itself on being a Cities For Climate Protection Plus Council. We are committed to the environment, and to the future of our community. This program has given Council the opportunity to successfully develop greenhouse saving initiatives, which in turn have been embraced by our residents. Rockhampton City Council understands that everyone needs to contribute in order to combat global warming, and this Council intentds to lead the way for our community.

- Council has been involved with public place recycling.
- Community recycling.
- Green Waste.
- EcoSaver Street - residential education program.
Travel
- Involvement in the Community Abatement Grant on Sustainable Transport - developing green travel plans.
Corporate
- Energy, water and waste saving initiatives including:
- Recycling.
- Energy saving initiatives (office equipment, etc).
- Tree Planting.
- Alternate fuels.
- Greener vehicles.
Future greenhouse abatement actions
- Council is to continue community engagement on climate change issues.
- Continued development of greenhouse abatement initiatives within the corporate sector.
- Increased capacity for recycling with a potential for organic recycling.
- Continued involvement in ICLEI-based initiatives through the CCP Plus program.
