Wollongong City Council is proud to have been a pilot member of CCP and has long enjoyed many benefits from this association such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions and increased community awareness of environmental issues.

Actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Community
Wollongong City Council has actively promoted greenhouse gas reduction within the local community through programs and initiatives such as:
- cool communities
- sustainability street
- the greenhouse park
- sustainability begins at home
- sustainability in the workplace and
- a greenhouse action plan.
Travel
Wollongong City Council has implemented a variety of activities and projects aimed at decreasing the greenhouse intensity of transport in the Illawarra region. These include:
- a bicycle plan which provides an integrated approach to cycleway planning and the provision of community facilities for cyclists in the Illawarra
- a report looking at travel demand management in Council
- several hybrid vehicles which are being trialled in the Council fleet and
- an increased proportion of fuel efficient four cylinder vehicles in the Council fleet.
Corporate
Wollongong City Council has undertaken several projects which have reduced its greenhouse gas emissions. These include:
- power factor correction at a number of sites
- replacing old equipment with more energy effeicent models
- installing an energy management system
- purchasing recycled paper and<
- recycling green waste and office paper.
Future greenhouse abatement actions
- Wollongong City Council is committed to reducing it's ecological footprint through a variety of means including further reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
