Hunter & Central Coasts, NSW—Vulnerability to climate change impacts
20/10/2011
The Government has released the report:
Hunter & Central Coasts, New South Wales—Vulnerability to climate change impacts.
The report models the potential vulnerability of the built environment to combined sea level rise and flood extremes in the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and Wyong Local Government Areas. The modelling of future landscapes for 2030 shows adaptive measures may reduce the urban area vulnerable to climate change impacts by more than 46 per cent. Further modelling of higher sea levels identifies seven coastal beach dune areas vulnerable to beach recession by 2070.
The analysis maps the region’s social, economic and ecological vulnerability to climate change impacts. It explores plausible futures that can help manage climate change risks.
