Nominations sought for environment awards

14/02/2013

Nominations are now open for the Prime Minister’s Environmentalist of the Year Award.

The award recognises the invaluable contribution individuals, groups or organisations make to the environment through a wide range of projects, right across Australia.

Through this award, the Government aims to shine the light on important contributions made by those working across Australia in the environment and sustainability arena, particularly those who have made a significant contribution to our environment at a national level.

Individuals, groups or organisations who have demonstrated an outstanding level of commitment and service to the environment are able to be nominated for environmental or sustainability projects. Self-nomination is also welcome.

Projects focusing on improved biodiversity management, urban sustainability such as energy efficiency, sustainable water, pollution reduction, climate change adaptation and community education are just some of the areas recognised by this award.

The Prime Minister will also recognise the Young Environmentalist of the Year, a category that acknowledges the important contribution of young people under the age of 25 to the environment.

Nominations close on 22 April, with the winners being announced as part of World Environment Day celebrations in June.
