Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and his colleagues have again sought to mislead the Australian public over the impact of a carbon price on aviation.

Almost 24 hours after his Workplace Relations spokesman, Senator Eric Abetz, was caught out trying to draw links between a restructure announcement by Qantas and the impact of a carbon price – Mr Abbott has repeated these same untruthful claims.

During an interview on Radio 2SM this morning, Mr Abbott said:

“...but there’s no doubt that the carbon tax is making life more difficult for a lot of businesses, it certainly will impact heavily on Qantas...”

As the Government pointed out yesterday – there will be no carbon price on international aviation flying from Australia.

Our plan to introduce a carbon price from 1 July 2012 has nothing to do with Qantas’ announcement of a restructuring of its international operations.

Mr Abbott’s backbench colleague, the Member for Moncrieff, Steven Ciobo, also repeated the claims during an interview on SKY News this morning.

This deliberate misrepresentation of the facts shows the disgraceful lengths the Opposition is prepared to go to in its scare campaign against a carbon price.
