A national advertising campaign will commence on Sunday evening (17th July) to provide the Australian community with information about the Government’s plan for a clean energy future.

This campaign will provide information on what the Government’s plan means for households, businesses and communities.

Climate change is a significant economic and environmental challenge that affects all Australians.

The Australian Government has a responsibility to provide the community with clear information on its plan to cut carbon pollution and drive investment in clean energy including through a carbon price.

The Clean Energy Future public information campaign will start on free-to-air and pay TV networks this Sunday evening.

The television advertisements feature real Australians who work in large and small organisations that are all involved in some way in creating a clean energy future for Australia. Participants were not paid and were not scripted.

Advertisements will also appear in newspapers and on radio stations around the country.

The campaign has been reviewed by the Independent Communications Committee and complies fully with the Guidelines on Information and Advertising Campaigns by Australian Government Departments and Agencies.

The Government previously announced the intention to proceed with a national advertising campaign on 16 June.

The $12 million committed for this campaign compares to $118.7 million spent by the Howard Government advertising the GST policy and $121 million advertising its WorkChoices policy.

In 2007, the last year of the Howard Government, a total of $254 million was spent on campaign advertising.
